Getting things cosy…
Getting things cosy…
On Saturday, Leena and Daddy went to the city farm. It was right in the middle of London. Big red buses rumbled past the gate.
"Moo!" said a big brown cow.
"Moo!" said Leena.
Leena counted the cow's legs. "One, two, three, four!"
"Who made the cow, Daddy?"
"Allah did!" said Daddy.
Next came a fluffy chicken. "Cluck, cluck, cluck!" Scratch, scratch went her feet in the straw.
"Cluck, cluck!" said Leena.
The chicken had two legs. "One, two!"
"Who made the chicken, Daddy?"
"Allah did!" said Daddy.
In the vegetable patch, Daddy lifted an old flowerpot. Underneath was a little pink worm.
The worm did not say moo. The worm did not say cluck. It did not make a single sound! It just went wiggle, wiggle, wiggle on its tummy.
"It's got no legs!" said Leena.
"Who made the worm?" asked Daddy.
"Allah did!" shouted Leena.
Daddy put the flowerpot back, very gently, so the worm could stay cosy. Then he smiled. "In the Quran, Allah tells us that He made every creature. Some move on their tummies. Some walk on two legs. And some walk on four."
Leena looked down at her feet. "Daddy! I've got two legs. Like the chicken!"
"Who made Leena's legs?" asked Daddy.
"Allah did!" laughed Leena.
Daddy stepped back and held out his arms. Run, run, run! Leena's two legs ran all the way to Daddy, and he scooped her up high.
"Thank You, Allah, for my two legs," said Leena. "Alhamdulillah!"
That night, Leena's legs were tired. She tucked them under her soft blanket, snug and still.
"Goodnight, cow with four legs," she yawned. "Goodnight, chicken with two legs. Goodnight, little worm with no legs at all."
"Who made everything?" whispered Daddy.
"Allah did," whispered Leena. And she fell fast asleep.
Every creature, whether it walks on four legs, walks on two or wiggles along on its tummy, was made by Allah alone. Noticing His creatures, and our own bodies, turns an ordinary day out into a day of saying thank You to Him.
Because every little heart deserves a real answer.
Allah made every animal: the cow that walks on four legs, the chicken that walks on two, and the worm that wiggles on its tummy. Only Allah can make animals, so He is the only One you worship and pray to.
Every animal you meet is a sign, like a little label that says, 'Allah made me!' And Allah made you too, carefully and lovingly, exactly as you are.
Next time you see an animal, count its legs! Then ask, 'Who made you?' and answer, 'Allah did!' And say Alhamdulillah for your body and all the things it can do.
“Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.”
