Privacy

IslamicSleeps is free, has no accounts and no adverts, and is run as sadaqah jariyah. Here is exactly what it does and does not keep.

Stays on your device

Your saved stories, your theme choice, your read-aloud settings and — if you use “Make it about my child” — your children's first names and whether each is a boy or a girl are stored in your browser only. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them, and you can remove a name at any time with Edit on any story.

Stories you open are also kept on your device so they work without signal, as is the whole library if you choose to save it for offline reading.

Earlier versions of the site had a story generator that remembered a child's name, age and gender on the device to pre-fill its form. The generator has been removed and that profile is no longer read or used; clearing your browser data removes it too.

When you share a story

Sharing a story made for your child creates a link with their first name in it (for example #for=Aisha&g=girl), so the person you send it to hears the same story. That part of a link is kept by the browser and is never sent to our servers, so we never receive or store the name. Anyone you send the link to can see it, and can forward it — share it as you would a photo.

When you use the story maker

The story maker writes a new story with AI from a few things you pick: an age band, boy or girl, a value, a place, who is in it and what your child loves. Those choices go through OpenRouter to Anthropic's Claude, the AI that writes the story (we only allow providers whose policy is not to collect the data they are sent), and are kept with the story in our database so its link keeps working. Your child's name is never sent: the story is written with a blank where the name goes, and your device fills it in.

Made stories are kept for 12 months and then deleted. The device that made a story can delete it sooner. Anyone reading a story can report it, which hides it until one of us has looked; reported stories are sent to us in a daily summary. Drafts our checks turned down are kept for 90 days to improve the checks; they contain only the story text and your choices.

So that one household can't use up everyone's stories for the day, we keep a scrambled one-way code made from your internet address for two days. The address itself is never stored, and the code is never stored with a story.

On your device we keep the list of stories you made (each story's link, your child's name, the value and a code that lets you delete it) and your choices while a story is being written. Removing a child from “Make it about my child” doesn't remove that list; delete stories from it under “Stories you made”, or clear your browser data.

Only when you send feedback

If you tap a feedback button on a story or suggest a topic, we store your vote or comment and which story or topic it was about. Nothing else about you is stored: no account, no email, no name. Please don't put personal details in a comment.

Getting in touch

To report a correction or ask for anything you sent to be removed, use the feedback buttons at the bottom of any story, or open an issue on the project's GitHub.

Other services

Feedback and made stories are kept in a Supabase database in the UK. The site is hosted on Vercel. Stories from the story maker are written by Anthropic's Claude, reached through OpenRouter, and are labelled as made by AI. Read-aloud uses the voice built into your own browser — no audio ever leaves your device. Library stories are fixed text, the same for everyone, and checked against their sources.

Children

This site is made for parents to use with their children. It has no accounts, no messaging, no comments and no advertising, and it does not track visitors between sites.
